2007 Alfred Friendly Press
Fellowships Competition
The Alfred Friendly Press
Fellowships (AFPF) is inviting mid-career, print journalists from
developing countries to apply for the 2007 edition of its Fellowship.
The programme will run from
March to August 2007 and approximately 10 journalists will spend five
months reporting for American news organizations while learning about the
professional and ethical standards of the U.S. print media. Fellows are
also encouraged to attend conferences and make short-term professional
visits to organizations relevant to their work at home.
In addition to its general fellowships, AFPF also offers specialized
fellowships by topic and region, including business, education, health,
investigations, religion, as well as the Daniel Pearl Fellowships which
are offered to journalists who come from areas that Daniel Pearl covered
as a journalist - South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. Those
receiving specialized fellowships partake in activities related to their
interests.
Successful fellows are selected based on their commitment to careers in
journalism, English language proficiency, journalistic skills, and ability
and desire to share what they learn on the programme with journalists at
home. Applicants must be between 25 and 35 years old and have a minimum of
three years, full-time professional print journalism experience.
AFPF covers all program-related international and domestic U.S. travel,
health insurance, and provides a monthly stipend to cover basic living
expenses.
Applications which must be received by September 1, 2006, are
available online at
www.pressfellowships.org.
