Call for Entries for
International Cartoon Competition
Cartoonists are invited to enter the 6th
International Editorial Cartoon Competition, hosted by the National Press
Club of Canada and stand a chance to win a first prize of CDN 1,500.
Other prizes include a crystal trophy and a Certificate from the Canadian
Commission for UNESCO. Second and third place winners will receive cash
prizes of CDN 750 and CDN 500 respectively.
The theme of this year's competition is
"Cartooning in a dangerous environment", to illustrate the pressure under
which cartoonists perform their craft: the "chill" of a potential libel
suit, the temptation of self-censorship, and security, political, economic
and/or editorial constraints to artistic expression.
An exhibit of the 40 best cartoons will be held
at the National Press Club, located in Ottawa Canada. The winners of the
Competition will be announced at the World Press Freedom Day Luncheon held
at the National Press Club in Ottawa, on May 3, 2006. Winners will advised
by mail/fax or e-mail. The results will be posted on the Club's web site
http://www.pressclub.on.ca
Cartoonists may submit a maximum of three
cartoons. Cartoons may be in colour or black and white and should not
exceed the size of A4; 21 X 29.2 cm; or 8.5 X 11 inches.
The cartoonist's name, address, telephone
number, fax number, and e-mail address (if available) must be on the
reverse side of each cartoon or in the e-mail to which the cartoon is
attached.
Submissions should be sent to: NPC 6th
International Editorial Cartoon Competition 150 Wellington Street, Ottawa,
