Young journalists from around the world are invited to
apply for a summer programme in Germany which focuses on media freedom and
responsibility.
The third Summer Academy, scheduled to take place from
August 6 to September 3, 2005 in Hamburg, Germany, is being organized by
the International Institute in Journalism (IIJ). The title of this year’s
course is “Freedom and Responsibility in the Media.”
Participants in the academy will discuss press freedom,
different kinds of media systems, ethics, investigative journalism, and
the German media, among other topics. The programme will combine expert
lectures, group work and practical exercises.
Participation in the academy will be free for the 24
participants, to be selected from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.
To the eligible for the programme, applicants should be 30 years old or
younger and have at least one year of experience in journalism.
Capacity Building International, the German development
agency that administers IIJ, will pay for lodging, food and in-country
transportation. Participants will however be responsible for their
airfares to Germany.
