CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2008 Awards Receiving Entries

 

Organizers of the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards are receiving entries for the 2008 edition. The Awards and Competition aim to reinforce the importance of the journalists’ role in Africa’s development and to recognise journalistic talent across all disciplines.

 

It is open to African professional journalists (including, but not limited to, freelancers) working on the continent for African owned media organisations or media organisations headquartered on the continent of Africa that produce a printed publication or broadcast through an electronic medium (television broadcaster; radio station or website) primarily targeted at and received by an African audience.

 

Works encouraged for submission for the awards should be those which tell the story in a balanced, comprehensive and objective manner; have made these stories, or issues, accessible and relevant to their audiences; demonstrates journalistic ability and integrity; display well organised research, depth and insight; and was broadcast or published between January and December 2007, with proof supplied.

 

Launched in 1995, the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards are the longest running, and most prestigious Pan-African Competition for journalism in Africa. Eighteen prizes are available and will be awarded for different categories including Tourism, Arts & Culture, Economics & Business, Environment, Free Press Africa, MSD Health & Medical, and The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Award for Excellence in HIV/AIDS Reporting in Africa etc

 

A prize fund in excess of $250,000, ensures that the finalists enjoy an all expenses paid finalists’ programme of activities and workshops in Accra, Ghana culminating in the gala awards ceremony. Category winners will also receive, a state-of-the-art laptop computer with modem and printer and a substantial cash prize.

 

The judges will award the grand prize to the journalist , from the among winners, whose individual piece or body of work merits the title CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2008, whether they be a Print, Television, Internet, Radio or Photographic entry. In addition to their category prizes, the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2008 will receive a further cash prize and will be invited to CNN headquarters in Atlanta.

 

Participants can submit material relating to any of the categories for the awards and they are strictly limited to submitting 2 entries per category. The same piece may only be entered in one category.

 

For the print entries applicants are expected to send the original and photocopy of each article; applicants for Television entries are to send two DVD or VHS copies of each submitted piece and radio entries should include two audiocassette or CD copies of submitted material.
