UNESCO Launches
World Press Freedom Prize 2008
Organisations working in the field of journalism and freedom of
expression are invited to submit nominations for the 2008
UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.
The
US$25,000 award honours a journalist or organisation that has made a
notable contribution to the defence and promotion of press freedom
anywhere in the world, especially if this involved risk.
Named
after the Colombian journalist who was killed 20 years ago for
criticising the country's drug lords, the award is presented each year
on World Press Freedom Day, 3 May.
Organisations can nominate a maximum of three candidates.
Self-nominations are not accepted.
The
deadline for submissions is January 30, 2008. Nomination form is
