Young Journalists/Filmmakers Sought for Metropolis

TV Programmes

 

Metropolis, a new multimedia project, initiated by Hivos and the VPRO, a media organization from The Netherlands is seeking young filmmakers and journalists with proven track records, who would like to contribute to its programmes, producing and directing short features about events in their countries.

 

Personal stories about the lives of its correspondents, current affairs, news items, lifestyle and trends will all be part of the show. From all over the world, these correspondents will give unique insights into their lives, their countries, their news and their lifestyles.

 

The project consists of three equally important parts: A worldwide network of young correspondents; a website (www.metropolis.tv) which allows users to navigate on an interactive Google map to any area of the world, and find filmed stories and video letters from Metropolis correspondents; and a weekly TV programme of 25 minutes, to be broadcast on Dutch national television. This will be a magazine on different subjects, about culture, lifestyle, politics, etc. containing several filmed TV-items with an average length of 5 minutes.

Eligible applicants must have, among other skills and competences, proven experience in the field of TV and video production, able to research, produce, direct and edit stories and whose works have high quality standard; have lots of ideas and many contacts in their countries; and be highly informed about news developments in their countries, but also creative enough to find their own stories and unique angles and also able to offer personal, surprising stories about unknown aspects of daily life. 

 

Correspondents must have permanent access to recording equipment (preferably a DV-camera) and a computer with editing software and also have access to a broadband internet connection (private or shared) to upload videos to Metropolis.

 

Metropolis offers correspondents the opportunity to work for a high-profile new TV and internet project, from a renowned broadcaster in The Netherlands; decent payment according to local standards; and a chance to show their talents to a Dutch audience via TV and to a global audience via the internet.
