Cambridge Hosts Science and Religion Fellowships for Journalists

Journalists interested in pondering the connections between science and religion more deeply have until December 15, 2005 to apply for the Templeton-Cambridge Journalism Fellowships in Science and Religion at the prestigious University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

The Templeton-Cambridge Journalism Fellowships in Science and Religion is now in its second year. The programme will select 10 qualified broadcast, online or print journalists from anywhere in the world for the 2006 programme.  Fluency in English is a requirement.

Each fellows will receive a US$15,000 stipend, a book allowance, and travel expenses.

The John Templeton Foundation is sponsoring the programme, which is aimed at promoting more informed public discussion on science and religion.

In early June, the journalists will attend two weeks of seminars led by experts on various aspects of science and religion. This will be followed by five weeks of private, independent study. The fellows then return to the University for a Final Seminar, where they will deliver oral presentations on their research.

The programme encourages participants to write and publish articles or editorials on their work. Research possibilities include the origins of life, genetic engineering, or spirituality and health.

Applicants should submit a detailed resume, three professional references, three samples of their work, and a 1,500-word essay.

The deadline for applications is December 15, 2005.
