Applications Invited from Women Journalists
Covering Public Health
Applications are invited from women journalists covering
public health issues in any of several African and Asian countries for the
Public Health Fellowship Programme, organized by the International Women’s
Media Foundation (IWMF). The fellowships will send two women to the United
States for hands-on training at established news media.
Applicants should be editors or radio producers from China,
Indonesia, or any of the following African countries: Angola, Benin,
Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea,
Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania,
Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Swaziland,
Togo, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The fellowships are sponsored by the Open Society Institute
(OSI).
The deadline for applications is April 15, 2005. IWMF will
announce the winners in June 2005, and the six-month fellowship will run
from August 2005 to January 2006.
For the first four months, the successful fellows will work
with advisors at host media to develop a better understanding of how U.S.
editors and producers cover public health issues. The fellows will return
to their home countries for the last two months to complete the public
health journalism projects they have developed.
More information about the fellowship programme can be
obtained by contacting fellowship@iwmf.org or visiting the IWMF website
