The 12th edition of the International Journalism Festival (IJF), the largest annual media event in Europe, will take place in Perugia, Italy, from April 11 to 15, 2018.

The IJF is a cultural event that takes place every year in April in Perugia, about 160 kilometres from Rome, featuring workshops, meetings and interviews about journalism, communication and the media.

The Festival, which will take place over five full days, will host several dozen different sessions, and have been known in previous events to exceed 200 different sessions, covering all aspects of the media.

The Festival brings together a mix of well-known media leaders, experts and celebrities as well as journalism students and non-journalists to discuss trends, news and issues affecting journalism.

The IJF was founded in 2006 by Arianna Ciccone and Christopher Potter, who remain the two IJF directors and are in charge of all aspects of Festival. The first edition was held in 2007, while the 11th edition took place in April 2017 with more than 65,000 participants, 2,000 journalists and nearly 700 speakers from 44 different countries.

All festival sessions are live-streamed. The live-streams will be available for viewing during the festival on the festival website homepage.

All sessions are held in English or Italian, depending on session speaker composition. For selected sessions English-Italian simultaneous translation is provided for participants.

The language of each session, and whether simultaneous translation will be provided for the session or not, is indicated in the festival programme and in the festival brochure. A total of 85 sessions were provided with simultaneous translation at the 2017 festival.  However, the simultaneous translation is not available via IJF live streaming or on the IJF videos.

The Festival is put together and run every year by a large international team. All IJF sessions are free of charge for all participants.  The event is organized with corporate and institutional sponsorships.

In the 2017 festival, the organizers received approximately 80 per cent of the revenue from corporate sponsors while about 20 per cent came from institutional sponsors. The 2017 IJF corporate sponsors included Amazon, Facebook and Google.
