The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF), in collaboration with the Kari Howard Fund for Narrative Journalism, established in honour of Kari Howard, the longtime editor at the Los Angeles Times reputed for her storytelling, are accepting applications from women and nonbinary journalists with at least three years of journalism experience.
A project grant of a maximum of $5,000 will be made available to successful applicants. Applications are accepted from print journalists or a print journalist leading a multimedia team. Projects reported and published in English anywhere in the world are eligible, with the requirement that all reporting and publishing be completed within six months of receiving the grant.
To be eligible, applicants must be women or nonbinary journalists. They can be either freelance or staff print journalists and may apply individually or as part of a multi-format team. Journalism must be their primary profession, and they must have at least three years of professional journalism experience, excluding internships. Additionally, applicants need to demonstrate proof of interest from an editor or have a proven track record of publication in prominent media outlets.
All applications and publications must be in English. Any multi-format reporting should supplement a printed project. Stories can be published digitally and do not need to appear in a newspaper or magazine.
