The Poynter Institute for Media Studies, a global non-profit that aims to strengthen democracy by improving the relevance, ethical practice, and value of journalism, in collaboration with the Center for Sustainable Media, based in Budapest, Hungary, is inviting journalists to enroll in a grant writing course.

The course will walk participants through the details of a typical grant application process from start to end. It includes developing an organizational strategy; finding grants to support the strategy; developing the components of a grant application; designing budgets; and creating monitoring and evaluation plans.

The course is designed specifically with journalists in mind. Although the course is open to everyone, it is specifically targeted at journalists pursuing grant funding. It is fully asynchronous and can be completed at applicant’s own pace with an estimated time of 7 to 8 hours to complete.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • • Develop a well-defined organizational strategy
  • • Illustrate how proposals are prepared, structured, and evaluated
  • • Design their grant proposal, including a robust monitoring and evaluation plan and budget
