The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) has conducted an audit of its Merits Decisions from 1994 to December 2024 and published a list of those requiring implementation follow-up, to address the lack of data regarding the implementation of its decisions. It has also developed a database of its recommendations in the complaints decided during the same period.
In addition to the decisions arising from its complaints procedures, referred to by the Commission as the communication procedure, it has also developed a database of the recommendations made by the Commission in its Mission Reports from 1987 to 2024, which is published along with a summary of the number of recommendations from missions.
The Commission said in a statement issued on December 5, 2025, that it had identified the lack of data regarding the implementation of its decisions as a major challenge, which led it to conduct an audit of its Merits Decisions covering the period.
