The African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC), a project of the Wits Centre for Journalism, in association with Bellingcat, DW Akademie, and other partners, has opened applications for the 2026 Investigative Journalism Masterclass, an intensive training programme designed to equip African journalists with advanced investigative reporting skills and the latest digital tools.
The three-day training, which will be the 5th edition, will run from Saturday, November 7 to Monday, November 9, 2026, ahead of the AIJC 2026 conference, which will take place from November 10 to 12 at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
During the masterclass, participants will receive practical training in digital forensics, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), verification techniques, artificial intelligence, and data journalism. All sessions will be conducted in English and will focus on helping journalists strengthen their investigative reporting skills using modern tools and methods.
Fellowships are available for experienced investigative journalists, editors, and journalism trainers from across Africa. Selection will be based on applicants’ professional experience, recent work, and demonstrated commitment to investigative journalism. Successful fellows will also receive access to the full AIJC 2026 conference and its training sessions.
Applicants may also request travel and accommodation support to attend both the Masterclass and the conference. This support does not cover transport within an applicant’s home country, visas, travel insurance, personal transport in Kenya, or hotel incidentals.
Successful applicants must have a valid passport, arrange any required visas themselves, and be available to travel between November 5 or 6 and November 12, 13, or 14, 2026, depending on their travel schedule.
Applications close on Friday, July 31, 2026, and successful applicants will be notified before the end of August.
