The Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria (AMCRON) will hold its fifth International Conference and Annual General Meeting in Lagos at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Lagos, in Yaba, from December 3 to 4, 2025.
The hybrid event, which will be held physically and virtually via Zoom, is themed “Issues in Artificial Intelligence, the Mass Media, and Democracy.” AMCRON is inviting researchers, scholars, media professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders to submit papers that interrogate the intersections of artificial intelligence, media practices, and democratic participation
The conference seeks to provide a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and critical reflection on how artificial intelligence is reshaping journalism, broadcasting, advertising, public relations, and other areas of media practice, while also interrogating its impact on democracy, civic participation, and freedom of expression. AMCRON aims to foster collaborative insights that will guide ethical frameworks, innovative solutions, and sustainable policies for navigating the challenges and opportunities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in contemporary communication by bringing together academics, practitioners, and policymakers.
Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts and papers that align with the conference’s wide-ranging sub-themes, including topics such as AI and news reporting, misinformation and crisis communication, political campaigning and civic participation, data ethics and privacy, as well as the intersections of AI with Nollywood, indigenous languages, media literacy, and democratic sustainability. Both empirical studies and conceptual papers are welcome, as AMCRON seeks to generate research-driven insights that will enrich academic scholarship and inform practical interventions in the media and communication landscape
Interested applicants should submit abstracts of no more than 300 words by Sunday, November 16, 2025, while full papers are due by Sunday, November 23, 2025. Conference fees have been set at ₦20,000 for members who have paid their 2025 dues, ₦40,000 for members who have not paid their dues, ₦50,000 for non-members, and ₦10,000 for students, while international participants will pay US$100.
Papers presented at the conference will undergo peer review and be published in a special issue of the Journal of Communication and Media Research, as well as in a thematic book to be released by AMCRON
