On September 22, 2022, an angry mob attacked Mr. Abubakar Tahir, a reporter with the Hausa version of the Blueprint newspaper called “Manhaja”  while he was covering the devastation caused by flooding in Ganuwar Kuka village, in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Abubakar had gone to the flood-ravaged community to cover their plight. He presented his identification card and began interviewing some of the victims. But some people began hitting him from behind.

The journalist turned to those hitting him to ask why they were beating him but they forced his head down in the water and tried to drown him and while still beating him. One of his assailants brought out a knife but some people now stopped them from doing further harm to him.

Thereafter they now took him to the house of the district head where he was given new clothes to wear and a motorbike took him to Hadejia General hospital for treatment.
