Applications Invited for the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents Prize

Journalists from around the world are invited to apply for the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents Prize which recognizes journalistic work on conflict situations, their impact on civilian populations, or on a current event concerning the defense of freedoms and democracy.

Ten award prizes would be given with seven prizes awarded by the international jury. The award recognizes reports made between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024 in the radio, photo, television (short and long formats), written press, and the young reporter prize (photo this year) media categories.

The available categories and prizes are: the Calvados Department Prize in the Written Press Category with a prize of €7,000; the Amnesty International Prize in Television Category, €7,000; the Landing Committee Prize in Radio Category, €7,000; the Nikon Photo Category Prize worth €7,000; the Caen Memorial Prize for Large format television category, €7,000; the Crédit Agricole Normandie Prize for Young Reporter Category with a €3,000 prize; and the Arte, France 24 and France Télévisions Prize for the Video Image Category, €3,000.

Three special prizes would also be awarded as follows: the Ouest-France Prize – Jean Marin  (written press),  €4,000; the Public Prize  (photo) sponsored by the city of Bayeux, €3,000; and the Normandy Region Prize for High School Students and Apprentices  (television).  €3,000.

Reports published or broadcast only on digital media can apply in the same way as others (there is no publication obligation for the photo category). For the television category, the duration of the report must be between 1’30 and 6 minutes and must be presented as it was broadcast. For the radio category, the duration of the report must be between 1 and 6 minutes, presented as it was broadcast. For the photo category, the application should consist of a report of between eight to 15 photos.

The young reporter award category is FOR photography; a different category is chosen depending on the year, the report presented must have been produced between June 1 , 2022, and May 31, 2024. For the large format television category, the duration of the report must be between 6 and 30 minutes presented as it was broadcast. For the written press category, the application should consist of an article or a series of one to three articles on the same subject. The report must be presented as published.
