The National Press Foundation (NPF), a non-profit journalism training organisation based in Washington, D.C., in the United States of America, and the Hinrich Foundation, an Asia-based philanthropic organisation that works to advance mutually beneficial and sustainable global trade, are now accepting applications for the 2026 Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade from professional journalists around the world. The annual award recognizes outstanding journalism that helps the public better understand international business and trade.
The award is open to professional journalists whose work meets high standards of journalism and is published by a reputable news organization. Journalists working in print, broadcast, and digital media are eligible to apply.
The winner will receive a US$10,000 prize and will participate in the National Press Foundation’s annual awards event. Winning entries will also be published on the National Press Foundation’s website.
Eligible work must have been published or broadcast between September 30, 2025, and September 30, 2026. A maximum of two entries is allowed per news organisation. All submissions must be in English. Applicants are required to provide a letter of support and a work sample or samples as part of their application.
Applicants should gather all required materials before starting the application because it is not possible to save an incomplete application and return to it later. A non-refundable entry fee of US$25 is required for each entry.
Past winners include Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, Nikkei Asia, Associated Press, and the Washington Post.
