The Nigeria Media Innovation Programme’s (NAMIP) Sustainability Challenge is now accepting applications for grants from media organizations aimed at supporting the editorial independence of media organizations by strengthening their financial sustainability.
The challenge aims to support editorial independence by enhancing financial sustainability through building innovative news and information products, generating revenue opportunities, and developing sustainable business models.
Successful applicants will receive up to $50,000 for their projects and will be part of NAMIP’s innovation and capacity building programme until 2024.
Eligible applicants include existing independent media companies, non-profits, and new ventures with a mission-driven approach to local news and information. Those without traditional journalism or media backgrounds, particularly in technology, design, and business, are encouraged to apply.
Independent radio and TV platforms are also eligible. Applicants who were not successful in the first call can reapply.
The deadline to apply is midnight on February 28, 2023 (West Africa Time).
Successful applicants will receive funding and access to capacity-building activities, including targeted training, one-on-one coaching, and a supportive community of like-minded organizations.
NAMIP is implemented by Media Development Investment Fund and funded by MacArthur Foundation to promote digital innovation and new business models for independent media in Nigeria.
