On July 7, 2026, armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) allegedly pointed their guns at the News Central Television news crew, while threatening to shoot Mr Amadin Uyi, the station’s Abuja Bureau Chief and Head of Northern Operations, if he did not order his crew members to stop interviewing a counsel to a party in a land dispute.
According to media reports, the crew was on-site in the Guzape area of Abuja to cover a case of a disputed multi-billion Naira property besieged by the anti-graft agency.
According to Mr Uyi, the television crew had arrived at the Guzape location to follow up on a legal and ownership battle surrounding the property, which has been the subject of controversy and litigation involving a real estate developer, Ms Rebecca Omokharo-Isaac (also known as Bilkisu Ishaku Aliyu).
The News Central TV team conducted an interview with the counsel representing Omokharo-Isaac, who accused the EFCC of violating a court order requiring all parties to maintain restraint pending the resolution of the case.
The armed EFCC operatives were, however, enraged by the station crew’s recording of the ongoing event, and so they advanced on to where the media team was conducting the interview. They ordered them to stop the interview and leave the vicinity, threatening to open fire on the Bureau Chief, kill him, and declare him a criminal if he did not immediately cease filming and leave the vicinity.
