On February 24, 2026, Mr Abubakar Mark Sule, a reporter with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), was reportedly threatened during a phone call by Mr Ahmed Adam Quincy, a businessman from Kogi State, after the journalist contacted him for comments regarding claims linking him to the arrest and continued detention of Mr Stephen Akpa Achema, an engineer.
According to the report, Sule had reached out to Quincy to respond to allegations that he was connected to Achema’s arrest amid a dispute over an alleged N150 million debt. Instead of addressing the questions, the reporter said the businessman insulted and threatened him during the conversation.
During the call, Quincy allegedly told the reporter that he would “beat the hell out of” him if they met in person. He also repeatedly used insulting language while defending his position in the dispute with Achema.
The businessman insisted that Achema owed him money and denied personally carrying out the arrest, directing the journalist to seek information from the IGP of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) in Abuja.
The exchange escalated when the journalist asked whether detaining Achema violated an existing court order. Quincy reportedly responded with insults and threats, questioning the reporter and warning him against raising such questions.
