Call for Entries for the Nigerian Prize for Literature

A call for entries for the Nigeria Prize for Literature has been made by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited . The Nigerian Prize for Literature is endowed by NLNG and was established to honour the author of the best book by a Nigerian within the preceding four years.

The prize is awarded in four literary genres- prose, fiction, poetry, drama and children’s literature. However, this year, the competition is for drama.

The competition is open only to published works by Nigerian writers irrespective of the place of residence. The winner of the Prize will be awarded a sum of $100, 000.

Contestants must make available, proof of Nigerian citizenship (photocopy of the Nigerian passport or National identity card will suffice). Six copies of the entries and the e-copy, if available, shall be submitted either by authors or publishers, in accordance with the genres in competition. Applicants are required to complete contact information which includes the full postal address, emails, phone numbers and other relevant contact information. Books should be submitted to the NLNG External Relations Division, promoters of the prize, by the stipulated deadline. Failure to meet the stated conditions will lead to disqualification of the entry.

No book published before January 2010 will be accepted and an author is only allowed to enter one published work. Manuscripts will not be considered and no book previously submitted for this competition may be resubmitted at a later date, even if major revisions have been made or a new edition published. The prize will only be awarded on the ground of excellence.

The appointment of judges shall be done to reflect the genre in completion for the year. Persons appointed as judges will have wide experience, peer recognition, good public image, and command respect nationally and internationally. The judges shall be appointed by the Nigeria Prize for Literature and the Advisory Board for Literature.

Prizes shall be awarded at a public presentation and the deadline for all entries is March 31, 2014.
