National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu has called on Stakeholders to support the Commission in its quest to review NBC Act.

He made the call at the validation seminar on review of the NBC held on July 30, 2018 at Corinthian Villa Hotel, Abuja.

In his opening remark, Mallam Is’haq said “We have a major stake in the way National Broadcasting Commission operates. I have concluded 2 years of 5 year tenure as the DG of NBC and from the very beginning; I knew that we needed to work on the NBC Act.”

He disclosed that preliminary work has already been done on reviewing the NBC Act adding: “From the perspective of the Commission itself, we were aware that we needed to strengthen the law for some simple reasons: In trying to issue a license, we do all the preliminary work but there are two critical levels that when we get to, it is totally out of the hand of NBC.”

He said the Commission needs to keep working on the law and while he hopes that in the long run, stakeholders will begin to look at how the NBC can assist its licensees because the Commission discovered that there is a lot of gap in knowledge and that influences and affects the way people operate.

He expressed confidence that the NBC will get this amendment done and get a very good Act that will be responsible for the Nigeria broadcasting industry having been able to put organize and hold the seminar, adding, the Commission is doing is vital work and will take this process forward.

Amongst the organizations that attend validation seminar are Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), Nigeria Guild of Editors, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Radio, and Television Theater Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) and National Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ).
