Digihub Africa, a Johannesburg-based organsation that advocates for a rights-based inclusive digital ecosystem that safeguards online freedoms, is inviting youth organisations, educators, parents, human rights defenders, and digital rights activists to participate in its forthcoming  2025 Conference on Online Safety with a Focus on Teenagers.

Cyberbullying, online harassment, and online hate speech are rapidly rising issues across Africa, significantly impacting adolescents and teenagers. Popular platforms like TikTok, WhatsApp, and Facebook have unintentionally become hotspots for harmful behaviours, placing younger children at increased risk as they join digital spaces despite age restrictions.

Therefore, as part of the organisation’s ‘Hold Before You Send It Campaign’, the two-day hybrid event taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from October 8 to 9, 2025, will bring together changemakers from across the African continent to examine the growing risks young people face in the digital space. It will also serve as a platform to co-create community-centred solutions that prioritise safety, inclusion, and respect in online environments.

This dynamic event will spark meaningful discussions, focusing on cyber harassment, online hate speech, and online safety. Through interactive workshops and dialogue, participants will share strategies, exchange ideas, and build a stronger, safer digital future for Africa’s next generation.

Conference highlights include: insightful panel discussions featuring experts and practitioners exploring emerging threats and solutions; interactive workshops with practical, skills-based sessions designed to empower participants with actionable tools; and networking opportunities to connect with like-minded organisations, build partnerships, and collaborate for impact.

Digihub Africa has the mandate of defending and promoting digital rights across Africa by advocating for inclusive, rights-based digital governance; combating online hate, misinformation, and censorship; empowering youth and marginalised communities with the tools and knowledge to navigate digital spaces safely and meaningfully; and bridging the digital divide between rural and urban populations to ensure equity, dignity, and freedom for all.
