The Digital Democracy Centre (DDC), in partnership with TrygFonden, a member-based company dedicated to promoting peace of mind in the Danish society, has officially launched its fellowship programme applications, set to begin in 2026. The initiative invites aspiring media professionals, researchers, and innovators to enhance their expertise, carry out impactful projects, and contribute to advancing digital democracy across diverse contexts.
The fellowship aims to foster collaboration among researchers, journalists, and policymakers while exploring the influence of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on media, politics, and democracy. Fellows will work alongside DDC mentors and partners to expand networks, engage in public debate, and deliver tangible outputs, such as policy briefs, educational resources, and public talks.
The fellowship welcomes a wide range of applicants, including academic fellows researching digital technology and democracy, journalist fellows covering digital democracy issues, and policy fellows focused on regulatory debates and practical solutions. By combining their diverse perspectives, fellows will play an active role in addressing challenges and opportunities at the intersection of technology and democratic governance.
The fellowship seeks to leverage DDC’s knowledge in new ways by fostering collaboration with TrygFonden, DDC partners, and selected fellows. The programme emphasises innovation and aims to produce lasting outcomes, including new collaborations, networks, educational packages, and contributions to public discourse in Denmark and beyond.
Fellows will enjoy a range of benefits, including mentorship from a self-selected DDC mentor, financial support, access to DDC’s research resources, flexible workspaces, professional networks, and a platform to showcase their work. They will also have access to DDC alumni community. Benefits will vary depending on agreements made between each fellow, DDC, and its partners, allowing for tailored support aligned with individual goals.
Interested candidates are required to submit an application in English that includes a CV and an individual project plan. The plan should outline a concrete project in collaboration with a practice partner, whether linked to research, NGOs, media organisations, public institutions, or policy-making bodies. Applications must also include a project title, purpose, detailed timeline, expected outputs, mentor confirmation, work plan, and an overview of costs for which financial support is requested.
Applicants must complete the application using this application form and submit it, together with their CV in PDF format, to ddc@sdu.dk with the subject line: “DDC/TrygFonden Fellowship Application.”
Applications close on September 15, 2025.
