On March 3, 2026, Mr. Daniel Dafe Umukoro, publisher of Oasis Magazine and founder of the online platform, oasismagazine.com.ng, was arrested in Abraka, Delta State, by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS). He was reportedly picked up by four armed DSS operatives from the Bayelsa State Command, accompanied by another officer from the Delta State Command.
According to media reports, security operatives arrived in Abraka and took the journalist into custody without publicly stating the exact reason for the arrest. Sources, however, believe that the arrest may be connected to a story published on the news platform about a lawmaker in Bayelsa State.
He was released on March 11. The publisher himself later confirmed on social media that he had been released from custody. In the post, he thanked several individuals and institutions that supported him during his detention.
