This was made known in a statement released on February 26, 2026, by Mr Stanley Nkwocha, media aide to the Vice President.
Senator Shettima described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a strong supporter of the media who believes in press freedom. He said this is why the government has, over the past three years, created an environment where journalists can do their work without harassment.
The Vice-President spoke in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Nigeria Press Council (NPC), led by its Executive Secretary, Dr Dili Ezughah, during a visit to the Presidential Villa.
He added that President Tinubu has always supported the media, even using his personal resources in the past to help media organisations. According to him, the President is very tolerant and allows criticism, even when it is harsh, in order to maintain peace in the country.
Senator Shettima also promised to support the Council in getting official national approval for the publication. He said he would encourage governors of all 36 states to support the project, noting that states play a key role in national development.
The publication, titled “Nigeria: Documenting the Economic and Tourism Profiles of the 36 States and the FCT,” aims to promote Nigeria to the world. The Vice-President said similar publications are seen in other countries and expressed hope that this one would be widely printed and shared, including in Nigerian embassies.
The Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Ms Hannatu Musa Musawa, also praised the initiative. She said it would help showcase Nigeria’s tourism, culture, and creative industries, which are important for economic growth.
On his part, Mr Mohammed Auwal Jatau, speaking on behalf of the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said the project would benefit all states if approved.
Thereafter, Dr Ezughah thanked the Vice-President for his support and for meeting with the Council’s planning team.
