The FIPP (formerly Fédération Internationale de la Presse Périodique), an organisation that brings together experts in consumer and special-interest media for inspiring keynotes, practical workshops, and networking opportunities, has announced that its 48th World Media Congress will take place from October 13 to 15, 2026, in Madrid, Spain.

The choice of location for the Congress follows the success of its Centenary celebration in Madrid last year, which brought together more than 500 media leaders from 47 countries at the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

The 2026 Congress will take place at the Riu Plaza España, a centrally located venue in the heart of Madrid, providing an expanded space designed to enhance networking, foster innovation, and encourage meaningful collaboration among attendees.

Participants should expect three days of cutting-edge sessions from global media leaders, unparalleled networking opportunities with more than 500 senior executives, intimate workshops exploring key industry topics, cultural experiences showcasing the best of Madrid, and access to the Conversation Starter app designed to connect attendees with the right people at the right time.

Under the theme “FIPP 101: The Fundamentals of Media’s Future”, the 2026 Congress, marking its 101st year, will bring together leading voices in the media industry to share insights, challenge assumptions, and build partnerships that will shape the next century. Also, attendees can extend their stay, as optional cultural experiences will be organised before and after the main event.

FIPP also announced a new chapter in its history, revealing that it has merged with the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), creating what it describes as the world’s largest and most diverse global alliance of media companies, now uniting over 20,000 media brands and technology companies across 120 countries.

Founded in 1925, FIPP has spent 100 years connecting publishers, creators, platforms, and innovators, shaping the future of magazines, consumer media, and special-interest publishing.

FIPP noted that the merger represents growth rather than change, noting that members will retain access to events, research, community, and expertise, while benefiting from a broader global network and deeper resources across the media ecosystem, including audience growth strategies, technology insights, revenue innovation, print and digital expertise, and leadership development.
