Future World Magazine, a human-interest publication with a mission to provide credible analysis, balanced storytelling, and forward-looking insights on Africa and global affairs, is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the Future World Magazine Student Fellowship Programme (FWM-SFP).

The FWM-SFP is a selective, experiential learning programme designed to train the next generation of African journalists, communicators, and thought leaders. It provides hands-on exposure to professional journalism, research, and editorial production within a respected African thought leadership magazine established in 2001.

With supports from Future World Magazine’s mission to provide credible analysis, balanced storytelling, and forward-looking insights on Africa and global affairs, the fellowship is open to students and recent graduates of the School of Journalism and Communication Leadership, FLED International Leadership Institute; exceptional students from related disciplines, including media, communications, public policy, development studies, and international relations; and aspiring journalists, researchers, writers, and media professionals committed to ethical, high-quality work.

Student Fellows will work under the guidance of senior editors and contribute to both the print and digital editions of Future World Magazine.

Fellows may be engaged in research and background analysis for features; interview preparation and documentation; writing and editing articles and opinion pieces; fact-checking and editorial support; and digital publishing and content promotion.

All assignments align with the Magazine’s editorial calendar, including Personality and Institutional features.

FWM-SFP Fellows will gain practical training in professional journalism and editorial processes, mentorship from experienced editors and thought leaders, exposure to high-level personalities and institutions across Africa, published bylines and editorial credits (where applicable), and a Certificate of Fellowship upon successful completion.

Outstanding Fellows may be recommended for advanced editorial roles or future paid assignments.

The Fellowship is for a three to six months duration, and lectures would be conducted in a hybrid mode, comprising remote and assignment-based sessions with occasional in-person engagements. The programme is an educational, non-employment fellowship. Fellows may be paid stipends or allowances on a project-specific basis.

Admission to the programme is competitive and merit-based.

To apply, applicants should submit the following documents: a short statement of interest, writing samples or published work (where available), and an academic or professional reference (where applicable).

The Editor-in-Chief of Future World Magazine makes the final selection. All Fellows are expected to uphold editorial independence and neutrality; accuracy, integrity, and professional conduct; and respect for confidentiality and intellectual property.

To apply, please fill out the FWM-SFP Application Form.
