The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN), an organisation that supports and strengthens investigative journalism around the world, with special attention to those from repressive regimes and marginalised communities, has launched a new edition of the Sigma Awards, which recognises the best of global data journalism and is calling for entries from journalists for data projects published in 2025.
GIJN invites journalists from all regions to identify their best data work and submit it for consideration. The Network is maintaining the no-category rule for the award and will have experts in data journalism from around the world serve on the jury and prize committee. Entries are welcome from individuals and small newsrooms, as well as larger newsroom teams.
Eligible entries must be for data projects published in the 2025 calendar year (between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025) and must be submitted via the GIJN online form.
Applicants can enter as many projects as they want, but they must specify whether they are applying as part of a large or a small newsroom or as an individual, where applicable.
Applicants can access the full Sigma Awards rules here.
Interested journalists can access all entries submitted to the Sigma Awards in a database that allows the community to learn from the work of others, get inspiration, and explore the growth and evolution of data journalism from around the world over the years.
