The Global Investigative Journalism Network, in partnership with the Wits University Journalism Programme, will hold the 2017 Global Investigative Conference (GIJC17) fellowship programme in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Global Investigative Journalism Conference is the premier international gathering of investigative and data journalists and fellowship.
The 10th conference will incorporate this year’s African Investigative Journalism Conference and will feature more than 120 exciting panels, workshops, and networking sessions, ranging from cross-border collaboration and corruption to advanced data analysis.
According to the organizers, “with the support of our sponsors, GIJN and Wits Journalism are offering fellowships to both established and young promising journalists in developing and transitioning countries to participate in this prestigious event. Competition is keen so you need to convince us that you’ll make great use of the training GIJC17 offers. We will be offering between 40 and 60 fellowships to African journalists, and nearly 100 more for journalists elsewhere.”
The fellowship programme is open to full-time print, online, television, video, radio and multimedia journalists in developing or transitioning countries. Experience in investigative or data journalism will be added advantage.
Following the conference, participants are required to either produce a story or give a presentation in their home country, based on what is learned at the conference.
GIJC17 Fellowship includes Round-trip airfare to Johannesburg, hotel room for four nights, transport between Johannesburg airport and the conference hotel, breakfast and lunch on conference days, award ceremony banquet dinner and conference fee
The fellowship does not include a per diem, visa fees, or transport to and from your home country airport. Fellows are expected to pay for these costs.
Application for the fellowship closes on May 15, 2017 and winners will be notified via email by August 1, 2017.
