The Global Network Initiative (GNI) and the Telecommunications Industry Dialogue will jointly host the 2014 Learning Forums titled “Transparency and Human Rights in the Digital Age”. This is a twofold meeting holding on November 6, 2014 in California, USA and December 1, 2014 in Geneva, Switzerland.

These are multi-stakeholder learning forums in the United States and Europe to bring together experts from companies, civil society, governments, academia, and the investor community to explore freedom of expression and privacy in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.

The Telecommunications Industry Dialogue is a group of telecommunications operators and vendors who jointly address freedom of expression and privacy rights in the telecommunications sector in the context of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The companies that are currently participating in the Industry Dialogue are: Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, Millicom, Nokia, Orange, Telefonica, Telenor Group, TeliaSonera, and Vodafone Group. These companies have a global footprint, providing telecommunications services and equipment to consumers, businesses, and governments worldwide.

The Industry Dialogue has also announced a two-year collaboration with the Global Network Initiative (GNI). The GNI is housing the work of the Industry Dialogue and providing a common platform to exchange best practices, learning, and tools. During the two years of collaboration, the members of the GNI and the Industry Dialogue aim to find a shared and practical approach to promoting freedom of expression and privacy rights around the world.
