The International Sports Press Association (AIPS), a global organization headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, that represents sports media professionals, has launched the ninth edition of its Sport Media Awards, calling on sports journalists, photographers, and broadcasters worldwide to submit their best work. Participants can submit up to two entries of original work published or broadcast between November 5, 2025, and November 4, 2026.
The awards recognise excellence in sports journalism across writing, photography, audio, and video. The categories include Best Opinion Column, Best Colour Piece, Radio and Podcasts, Short Feature, Athlete Profile, Documentary, Sport Action, and Portfolio.
AIPS said journalists and other eligible media professionals can submit their entries through the official awards website. Returning participants will also be required to update their profiles before submitting their work, including their contact email where necessary.
Each category will award $5,000 to the winner, $3,000 to the second-place winner, and $2,000 to the third-place winner. However, winners in the Young Reporters categories will instead receive scholarships to attend major international sports events.
The Young Reporters categories are open to participants under 30 and cover writing, photography, and broadcasting. Participants must have been born on or after January 1, 1998.
The competition is open to professional journalists, photographers, and broadcasters aged 18 and above.
The longlist is expected in January 2027, followed by the shortlist in February. The top 10 finalists and podium candidates will be announced in March 2027, while the date for the awards ceremony will be announced later.
The awards will be judged by a 12-member jury selected by AIPS President Gianni Merlo. The jury will select the finalists from candidates shortlisted by the AIPS Executive Committee.
AIPS said the 2025 edition received 1,987 entries from 130 countries, reflecting the global interest in the awards. The organisation said the ninth edition will continue to promote excellence in sports journalism and recognise impactful storytelling.
