The United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is inviting stakeholders from all regions and stakeholder groups to share perspectives on the most pressing emerging issues, priorities, and challenges in the governance of digital technologies to help inform the overarching theme, subthemes, intersessional work and overall programme development of the 21st annual IGF meeting.
The open call for thematic input is part of several opportunities for the global multistakeholder community to engage in the process of planning and preparing for this year’s forum.
Although specific dates and venue for the 2026 IGF have not been announced, the IGF Secretariat said the Forum will be held in the last quarter of the year.
Inputs are to be submitted through a designated form, which is available on the IGF website, no later than February 28, 2026, and will be posted on the website as received.
The IGF Secretariat has said that it will analyze all submissions to support a transparent, bottom-up process for developing the thematic framework to guide the 2026 IGF.
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has also issued a call for nominations from all stakeholders for the 2026 IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), which is instrumental in planning the programme of the annual IGF meetings.
The call was issued by Mr Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, on behalf of the UN Secretary-General.
In the call, the Secretary-General invited all stakeholders to submit nominations for the MAG according to the established principles and practices of MAG rotation and selection of its members.
Specifically, he said: “Governments, the private sector, civil society, and the technical communities, should submit names of candidates from developed and developing countries as well as from economies in transition. Successful nominees will become part of the MAG for a period of one year and will contribute to the multistakeholder consultation process, bringing the perspectives of their respective groups on Internet governance.”
According to him, in the composition of the MAG membership, due consideration will be given to geographical and stakeholder distributions as well as gender balance.
He requested that the names of nominees be submitted to the IGF Secretariat by February 26. 2026, using the online submission template, which is available at the IGF website.
