The International Press Institute (IPI) has launched its Local News Accelerator to assist local media organizations in taking meaningful steps toward financial and editorial sustainability and has announced its call for entries from local media around the world for the Local News Accelerator programme.

Aimed at helping local media organizations take meaningful steps toward financial and editorial sustainability, the three-month training programme will provide structure, support, and skills development to test and implement new ideas that will serve communities and adapt to a rapidly evolving media landscape.

Successful applicants will take part in a programme of intensive training, one-on-one and group coaching, speaker sessions, networking, and access to an e-learning platform.

Designed by IPI’s media innovation and sustainability team based on its extensive work with local and regional media, the curriculum will cover topics such as business models and audience engagement, with coaching tailored to the specific needs of the participating newsrooms, to give them tools and skills that will help their media brands innovate and grow.

The training will be delivered by IPI’s in-house experts as well as media industry leaders; participants can expect to learn from people with a deep understanding and direct experience of the challenges facing local media.

Successful applicants will also be part of a global cohort of newsrooms pursuing similar goals – participants in previous programmes, including IPI’s Transition Accelerator, have highlighted this as a key benefit.

The deadline for submission of applications is August 27, 2023, and in applying, applicants will need to share some details about their organizations, audiences, and business models.
