The International Press Institute (IPI), a global organisation based in Vienna, Austria, and dedicated to the promotion and protection of press freedom and the improvement of journalism practices is hosting the 2024 World Congress and Media Innovation Festival under the theme “Navigating Crises: Journalism at a Turning Point,” in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Festival, scheduled for May 22 to 24, 2024, will gather prominent journalists, editors, and publishers from all over the world and aims to explore innovative solutions and critically evaluate the media’s role in addressing the significant crises of our time.
Additionally, the Festival will host the annual IPI World Press Freedom Hero and Free Media Pioneer awards ceremony and reception. These awards recognize journalists and media organizations who have made remarkable contributions to the promotion of press freedom, especially in the face of great personal risk.
The IPI Free Media Pioneer Award specifically acknowledges organizations that have demonstrated innovative models of journalism, media, or press freedom defence to meet the demands of the moment.
The IPI Global Network has been working towards preserving press freedom and supporting independent journalism as crucial elements in addressing common challenges amidst global upheaval. For over 70 years, the IPI World Congress has embodied this spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding.
