A controversial Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara has been arrested in Kano and charged to court for alleged blasphemy and incitement.

Sheikh Kabara was charged to court for statements that were claimed to mortifying the companions and sacrilegious to Prophet Muhammad.

The Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said in a statement that the development followed the receipt of the First Information Report (FIR) from the police by the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice which prepared charges against the cleric.

Garba disclosed that the cleric was subsequently arraigned on July 16, 2021 before an Upper Sharia Court Judge at Kofar Kudu presided over by Alkali Ibrahim Sarki Yola, where the charges that included blasphemy, incitement, and sundry offences were read to him.

The statement added that after the court sitting, it adjourned the case to July 28, while the scholar would remain under police custody until Monday when he would be sent to prison till the adjourned date.
