Mr Zaccheaus Ukhueleigbe, a Lagos-based journalist, was in October 2025, lured into a trap under the guise of a scheduled interview with Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo, the member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and arrested by policemen after he published an investigative report that alleged the House member received over N350 million for constituency projects that were never executed.
Mr Ukhueleigbe, in the publication, claimed that Hon. Olabinjo allegedly received over N350 million for constituency projects that were never executed. He also claimed that some projects were awarded to companies linked to the lawmaker. The journalist claimed that repeated attempts to reach Hon. Olabinjo for comment were reportedly unsuccessful, as his media aide, identified as Mr Yekini, refused to provide any clarification.
Mr Ukhueleigbe report published on https://thependulumnews.com/ and titled “Revealed: How Ifako-Ijaiye Residents Suffer Despite Millions of Naira Received For Constituency Projects,” cited several government-funded projects under Olabinjo’s allocations, which he said, were either abandoned, incomplete, or non-existent despite full budgetary releases. The page has since been taken down.
The meeting, arranged by Hon. Olabinjo’s aide, turned out to be an ambush as, upon arrival, Mr Ukhueleigbe was reportedly picked up and taken to Oko Oba Police Station in Lagos, where he was detained.
