The Thomson Reuters Foundation, as part of the Sports and Society program, is hosting a workshop tagged: “Investigative sports reporting” from August 20 to 24 2018 in Lagos, Nigeria and is inviting applications from journalists in Africa who want to report on how sport is run in their own country or wider region.
Participating journalists will work on a specific story idea and develop this during an intensive workshop. The workshop will cover investigative techniques, storytelling approaches, and more.
Participants will also receive editorial guidance and mentoring support to help them make their stories solid and engaging.
Participating journalists will be eligible to apply for modest funding to help cover the cost of reporting their stories .
Interested applicants must be journalists with a proven interest in how sport is run. Applicants do not need to be sports correspondents – attention will also be paid to business reporters and investigative journalists, for example.
The applicants must be based in an African country and working for a domestic media outlet such as print, radio, TV and online.
The organizers will cover all transport and subsistence costs of journalists participating in the programme.
