The Maynard Institute is accepting applications for the Maynard 200 Fellowship, one of the institution’s core programmes, which provides advanced training and mentorship to mid-career journalists of colour for promoting their career growth and expanding their leadership roles. The programme provides professional development training and a year-long mentorship for leaders, storytellers, frontline editors, managers, and media entrepreneurs of diverse backgrounds.

A tuition-free fellowship programme, the Maynard 200 is supported by funders including Craig Newmark Philanthropies, Google News Initiative, The Heartland Foundation, and The Fox Corporation.

Selected fellows benefit from cutting-edge curricula designed and delivered by distinguished faculty across relevant disciplines. Also, each fellow gains one-to-one mentorship from a veteran media executive or expert that aligns with their relevant discipline.

Fellows will be individually reimbursed up to $500, through the programme, for their airfare and ground transportation each week (up to $1,000 total for both June and October training). In addition, hotel accommodations for fellows will be covered for both in-person training weeks at TCU.

A maximum of 40 fellows across the investigative storytellers, executive leaders, frontline editors, managers, media entrepreneurs and product developers will be selected for the programme.

These fellows will gather in person in late June and late October for training sessions hosted by Bob Schieffer College of Communication at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition, they will conduct project work that takes place virtually over the eight-week period between in-person gatherings.

The program is open to everyone, as the institute is committed to addressing the under-representation of people of colour and other historically disadvantaged groups in media-related professions. Special efforts will be made to recruit individuals from these groups for the programme.

Applicants living outside the United States must be affiliated with or contributing content to a U.S.-based media outlet or organization.
