Media Fellowship Opportunity Open to Nigerian Journalists

The World Press Institute (WPI), a non-profit, educational organization based in Minnesota in the United States, in partnership with The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is calling for applications from early- to mid-career Nigerian journalists with at least five years of professional experience to participate in their media fellowship slated for March to May 2022.

The programme is open to journalists from newspapers, news magazines, wire services, radio, television, and online news organizations. Applicants, be fluent in both written and spoken English, must be Nigerian citizen who reside in Nigeria and who would be available to travel for nine weeks starting from March 2022.

The fellowship recipient will join a group of 10 World Press Institute Fellows from around the world and they will be provided immersion into the governance, politics, business, media, journalistic ethics, and culture of the United States through a demanding schedule of study, travel, and interviews.

The programme will also cover trips to Washington, DC, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and other major US cities.

The application should include the names and email addresses of three professional references one of whom should be the applicant’s direct supervisor. Reference letters must be in English and address the applicant’s experience, qualifications and potential.

Applicants should also include samples of their works which samples must include a publication date published/broadcast within the last two years. All submitted work samples must be online and publicly accessible. Applicants are encouraged to upload work samples to a publicly accessible online service, such as YouTube or Dropbox, if not directly available on a media website. Applicants who are unable to use a public service can upload work samples with the online application. Accepted file extensions are: .pdf, .txt, .rtf, .doc, .mp3 while accepted photo and other artwork extensions are: .jpg/.jpeg, .gif, or .pdf.

The fellowship covers travel, accommodation, and per diem for meals. Applications close September 30, 2021 while name of the selected fellow will be announced in November 2021.

The recipient of the fellowship will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before travelling to the United States.
