The Merck Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA, Germany, that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people and advance their lives through Science and Technology, has announced the call for entries for the 2025 edition of its Media Recognition Awards on Diabetes and Hypertension.
Launched in partnership with African First Ladies, the awards celebrate the crucial role of the media in promoting healthier lifestyles and creating awareness about the prevention and early detection of diabetes and hypertension, which remain some of the most pressing public health concerns worldwide.
The competition is open to journalists working across print, radio, online, and multimedia platforms. It invites media professionals from different regions, including Africa, Latin America, and Asia, to showcase stories that highlight the importance of lifestyle changes and community awareness in reducing the growing burden of these diseases. Through media engagement, the Foundation aims to amplify health information in ways that ordinary people can easily understand and act upon.
For the Merck Foundation, this award is more than a recognition programme; it is a partnership with the media to transform health outcomes. Diabetes and hypertension are often called silent killers, and millions of people continue to live with them undetected. By supporting journalists who tell these stories and break down complex health information into practical advice for the public, the Foundation hopes to inspire communities to embrace healthier choices and take preventive steps that can save lives.
Interested Journalists are encouraged to send in multiple works to increase their chances of winning. Each submission should include the applicant’s name, country, category of application, and contact details. Winners will be contacted individually through email before the official announcement is made through press releases and published on the Merck Foundation’s website and social media channels.
Applications are to be submitted by email on or before October 30, 2025.
