The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), the MultiChoice Group’s shared-value initiative that exists to educate the next generation of African storytellers and upskill existing African filmmakers to improve the quality of productions across Africa, has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy programme.
The MTF academies offer students a fully funded, 12-month filmmaking programme that combines both theory and hands-on experience. MTF has academies in Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, and South Africa. They provide aspiring filmmakers across 14 African countries with practical training, valuable industry exposure, and access to professional networks. This comprehensive approach equips them to succeed in the competitive entertainment industry.
The one-year programme covers a broad range of film modules, including scriptwriting, cinematography, directing, production management, and various post-production specialties. After the completion of the programme, each student (excluding those in South Africa) receives a university-accredited certificate from the Academy’s partner universities: the University of Zambia, Kenyatta University (in Kenya), and Pan Atlantic University (in Nigeria). MTF facilitators are practising filmmakers who are highly regarded within their specialty. MTF aims to ensure students learn from the best in the field.
The prospective applicant must be a young African graduate or creative who is passionate about storytelling and wants to contribute meaningfully to the local and pan-African TV and film landscape. They must be an individual who is ready to learn, innovate, collaborate, and shape the future of screen entertainment.
The programme is fully sponsored, and is offered through regional MTF academies in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia. Qualified applicants will learn about filmmaking by producing films, while developing their skills in film and TV production alongside industry greats.
Applicants are required to submit a complete set of documents consisting of a curriculum vitae not more than two pages, a personal motivation letter of up to 500 words explaining why they should be selected, a copy of their passport and national identity document (certified for South Africa), a certified copy of their matric certificate, certified copies of academic transcripts or tertiary qualification certificates, confirmation of banking details verified by the bank with an official stamp and/or letter (South Africa only), and proof of residential address.
