The National Press Foundation (NPF), a nonprofit journalism training organisation based in, Washington D.C., in the United States, and the Hinrich Foundation, an Asia-based philanthropic organisation that works to advance mutually beneficial and sustainable global trade, are inviting applications for the 2025 edition of the Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade that honours outstanding journalism that deepens public understanding of international business and trade.
In 2024, the Wall Street Journal was recognised for its series of stories on China’s phasing out of US technology and Beijing’s effort to undermine US sanctions, while the Bloomberg News won the 2023 edition for a series of stories on trade issues, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) advancement, supply chain reshuffles, and decoupling from China.
The award is open to professional journalists worldwide whose work upholds the highest standards of journalism and is published by a reputable news organisation, including print, broadcast, and digital media.
The winners will receive a prize of US$10,000 and an invitation to participate in the National Press Foundation’s annual awards event.
The Hinrich Foundation Award is open to professional journalists whose work was published or broadcast within one year of the application deadline (September 30, 2024, and September 30, 2025).
A maximum of two entries is allowed per news organisation. All submissions must be submitted in English and include a letter of support and work sample(s).
Winning entries will be published on the NPF website. By applying, you permit them to do so.
Applicants are advised to ensure that all materials are ready before beginning the submission process, as the application process cannot be saved for later resumption.
The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2025.
