NBC Set to Review the Nigerian Broadcasting Code, Calls for Inputs

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Nigeria’s broadcast industry regulator, is set to review the 6th edition of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code and is calling for inputs from stakeholders. The Commission said it acknowledges the ever-changing nature of broadcasting, the unique aspects of the Nigerian environment and the impact of evolving technologies on regulation. It added that in accordance with customary practice, it was commencing the review process for the 6th Edition of the Code.

This review, according to the NBC, aligns with its responsibility, as stated in its enabling Act to establish and disseminate a National Broadcasting Code and set standards for broadcast content.

The Commission stated that the Code is usually updated every four years and aims to enhance operational standards in the broadcast industry and, address emerging trends and technologies, including content regulation on social media.

The NBC requested stakeholders to submit hard or soft copy inputs to its Director General; hard copies are to be sent to its Abuja office at 20 Ibrahim Taiwo Street, Asokoro District, Garki while the soft copies should be sent to info@nbc.gov.ng and bpr@nbc.gov.ng.

The Commission directed stakeholders to submit their input no later than July 10, 2023.
