New America, an organisation dedicated to confronting the challenges caused by rapid technological and social change, and seizing the opportunities those changes create in the American society, has announced a call for applications for the 2027 New America Fellows Programme for journalists, scholars, filmmakers, and public policy analysts, who generate big, bold ideas that have an impact and spark new conversations about the most pressing issues in society.

The New America Fellowship provides opportunities for talented individuals who need support to pursue more ambitious endeavours in books, films, or photo essays. It is a programme where candidates can learn and engage with other candidates.

Candidates are selected on a highly competitive basis and serve mostly on an adjunct basis, or full-time, for a one-year term. During the fellowship period, New America gives fellows an intellectual home where they can have the time, space, and resources to pursue their projects. The programme aims to support eligible candidates by providing them with funding to pursue ambitious endeavours, build a community grounded in cohort gatherings throughout the year, and access to platforms and partners that can support their work.

The application consists of nine required components that every applicant must complete: a project title and description, a statement of interest, a plan of approach, an explanation of policy implications, a description of intended contributions to the cohort, a résumé, a work samples cover page (for written samples only), up to three written and/or non-written work samples, and two reference letters.
