On June 23, 2016, Niger-Delta militants comprising of some members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded the premises of Rhythm FM Radio/Silverbird Television stations in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital in South-south Nigeria.
They caused panic as they shot sporadically the air and forced employees in both the radio and television studios of the Silverbird Group to scamper for safety.
They came after two executive members of the IYC who were guests of a live radio programme, Talk of the Town, anchored by Lishman Onisodemuya.
They broke into the radio studio, interrupted the programme and dragged out the National Mobilisation Officer of IYC, Mr. Wisdom Ikuli, and Mike Edounkimor, who were the guests of the programme.
The militants also robbed employees of the studios of their money, mobile phone handsets and other valuables.
As a result of the chaos they caused, the radio studio was temporarily shut down.
They stormed the station, owned by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, in large number having been brought in different vehicles.
