The Ninth International Conference on Communications and Media Studies, scheduled to hold at the Interamerican Open University, Buenos Aires in Argentina, from October 24 to 25, 2024, is now accepting proposals from researchers and has opened registration for the Conference.

The 2024 conference will explore the special theme: Images and Imaginaries of Artificial Intelligence Ethical and Responsible Artificial Intelligence in Digital Communication Systems and the sub-themes: Media Cultures; Media Theory; Media Technologies and Processes; Media Business and Media Literacies.

Submissions of proposals should reflect the following lines of investigation:

  • The business of communication media.
  • Thelanguages and learning of media.

The Communication and Media Studies Research Network also supports a book imprint and a series of journals.

The conference will employ a hybrid format that is explicitly designed to make the most of in-person and online social knowledge processes, delivered on the CGScholar platform – developed by the Common Ground Media Lab, the research and technology arm of Common Ground Research Networks.

It also seeks to transcend physical boundaries by offering a platform to extend in-person conference content online, while ensuring online-only delegates are afforded equal participatory and experiential spaces within the platform.

The Conference which was founded in 2015, by the Communication and Media Studies Research Network, offers an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of the role of the media and communications in society. They seek to build an epistemic community where they can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network, they are defined by their scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by their shared themes and tensions.
