The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), a Federal Government institution that regulates information technology in Nigeria, has partnered with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to promote women’s digital inclusion and help advance the country’s digital transformation.

The partnership was discussed during a courtesy visit by a NAWOJ delegation, led by its National President, Comrade Aishatu Ibrahim, to NITDA’s Director-General, Mr Kashifu Inuwa. During the visit, NAWOJ introduced NITDA to the upcoming Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit and Awards 2026.

The WINSEC Summit and Awards 2026 is an initiative of NAWOJ designed to promote cooperation among government institutions, security agencies, technology experts, the media, and other stakeholders in addressing current security challenges.

According to NAWOJ President, Ms Aishatu Ibrahim, the initiative will also recognise individuals and organisations that have demonstrated excellence in security, governance, and innovation. It will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss how technology can contribute to a safer and more resilient Nigeria.

Ms Ibrahim thanked NITDA for its leadership and invited the agency to partner with NAWOJ to make the initiative successful. She said NAWOJ hopes to establish a long-term partnership with NITDA that will help women journalists gain digital skills, promote digital inclusion, and support innovation, digital literacy, and human capital development.

Representing the NITDA Director-General at the meeting was Dr Aristotle Onumo, Director of the Stakeholders Management and Partnerships Department. He assured NAWOJ that NITDA would participate in and support the success of the conference.

Dr Onumo said NITDA considers women’s digital inclusion a key priority and praised NAWOJ for creating a platform that promotes peacebuilding, dialogue on security and women’s participation. He said the agency is working to ensure that more women gain digital literacy and skills under its National Gender Inclusive Strategy.

He added that 40 per cent of NITDA’s programmes are required to take gender issues into account, with the agency working to ensure that women are properly represented and able to benefit from its programmes. He also said the partnership with NAWOJ could help NITDA reach more women and women’s groups across Nigeria.

Both organisations expressed optimism that the discussions would lead to a long-term partnership with clear objectives aimed at promoting women’s digital inclusion, innovation, digital literacy, and human capital development in Nigeria.
