Communiqué, a reader-supported and independent publication that analyses Africa’s creative economy, has opened nominations for its 2026 Person of the Year Award, inviting the public to help identify Africans whose works have had a profound and demonstrable impact on the continent’s creative economy over the past year.

The award, first announced in September 2025, recognises individuals whose contributions have helped shape Africa’s creative and cultural landscape over the past year.

According to Communiqué, the recognition is for founders, artists, creators, and ecosystem builders whose work between the second half of 2025 and the first half of 2026 has delivered a clear, discernible impact.

The organisers affirmed that every nomination will be researched and verified before a long list is compiled. An independent panel of industry stakeholders will then review the long list to determine the final winner.

Communiqué also noted that nominations are open to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria, including self-nominations.

Nominations close on September 1, 2026.

Individuals who wish to nominate a candidate can do so through the official nomination form here.
