Media organisations from around the world have until October 1, 2019 to nominate journalists who change the world for the better with their publications for the Fetisov Journalism Awards.

The goals of the Fetisov Journalism Awards are to promote contemporary journalism as a unique profession that contributes to transforming the lives of individuals, communities and the world as a whole; to spread the word about inspiring deeds of the award nominees and winners; and to bring journalists together as a community of like-minded people willing to raise journalism to an entirely new level and to meet new demands.

The Fetisov Journalism Awards winners share the biggest monetary prize in the history of journalism and the entire world comes to know about the inspiring their deeds and participation is free.

Available in four categories: outstanding contribution to peace; contribution to civil right; outstanding investigative reporting; and excellence in environmental journalism, applications should be submitted only by representatives (members) of professional journalism organizations (unions/associations/societies) are accepted for participation in the contest.

However, participants, who must be representatives of professional journalism organizations, can also nominate themselves.

No more than three journalists can be nominated from same media outlet by registered organisations which must fill a submission form.Publications (stories/articles/reportings) of nominees in the contest must have been published in printed media (newspapers/magazines/journals) and/or posted on media websites/outlets between June 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019.

In accordance with the instructions on the website, one publication must be attached to the application form but if a series of publications on one subject are submitted for the contest they must be sent in one file. The attached file which must be in PDF format must not exceed 10 Mb.

All publications for the competition must be written in English: publications in languages other than English will only be accepted if accompanied by translation in English. The translation must be provided in the same file as the original publication and must be done by a professional translator, be of high quality, be accurate and complete. Translation done with an automatic engine will not be accepted and word-for-word translation is not allowed.

Materials published in printed media, posted on media websites and media will be accepted for participation in the contest.

For participation in the competition, personal details of the representative of the nominating organization; personal details of the nominee; and information about nominee’s publication including the category of competition will need to be provided.

Shortlisted finalists will be disclosed by November 20, 2019 and they will be notified accordingly. Winning projects in each category will be revealed at the award ceremony on January 22nd, 2020.

The total prize fund is 520,000 CHF (Swiss Franc) but three winners in each category will share a monetary prize of 130,000 CHF (including taxes, as stipulated by the legislation in force). The first prize winners receive 100,000 CHF each, the second prize winners receive 20,000 CHF each while the third prize winners receives 10,000 CHF each.
